Project Pathways takes an innovative approach to improving health outcomes for women and children using a design-led framework that combines both qualitative and quantitative data and centers on vulnerability as the core concept.
At the Ethiopia workshop, Global Center for Gender Equality consultant, Lauren Lamson , collaborated closely with colleagues from Sonder Collective, Project HOPE, and the Gates Foundation to update and enhance the Project Pathways quantitative survey tool. This effort resulted in key gender-focused updates designed to deepen our understanding of social determinants affecting women’s and children’s health. These updates build upon valuable insights from qualitative research in Ethiopia and the real-world application of earlier surveys in Kenya, Nigeria, and India.
Key updates include:
* A new targeted Men’s Survey to capture crucial male perspectives.
* Integrating the validated G-NORM scale across both surveys to measure community-level gender norms.
* Expanded questions on women’s agency (decision-making, financial autonomy, access to resources).
These changes aim to provide richer insights into gender barriers, ultimately helping shape more effective and targeted interventions for women, men, and children in Ethiopia. We’re excited about the potential of this updated survey tool and look forward to its deployment later this year!
